Flak Jack project: Somme Terrain progress

Originally posted on my old blog, June 26, 2017

Things have been moving along nicely in regards to terrain work. I pretty much went back to square one, after trying several different process. The main hurdle has been trying to pack 40,000 sq km's worth of texture data into a manageable set of textures, that give a respectable level of resolution. Things like getting the width of the roads to feel approximately correct has a big influence on how you perceive the scale of the world.

As I've mentioned a huge tutorial will be done outlining the whole process, but until then here is a small update video. Hopefully it gives a little sense of the atmosphere and scale I hope to create.
